After a good overnight flight we landed in Bangkok to 30 degree plus temperatures. We collected our luggage and were very pleased that we had booked a private car transfer to our hotel. It was so nice to come through and find the sign with our names on it. We jumped in a mini-van and were driven the 45 minutes plus to our hotel, the Bandarra Suites.
When we arrived at our hotel it was too early to check in unless we wanted a smoking room. We decided to wait and come back at 1pm to see if our room would be ready. To pass some time we went and had a buffet breakfast in the hotel restaurant. After breakfast we were met at hotel reception by a representative of Destination Asia, the company we had booked many day tours with for our time in Bangkok. She was wonderful. She explained that her role is to look after our every need while in Bangkok. She explained not only about our tours but about the many do's and don'ts of visiting Thailand, and how to do so safely.
When we had finished with Alicia we went to the hotel lounge to wait for our room. Despite knowing it was not the best approach to jet lag we did all take the chance to catch up on some much needed sleep. After our rest our room was ready. We spent a little time getting settled into our room which was a wonderful 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment, before going out to dinner. After a walk we found a small Thai restaurant where we ordered a range of traditional foods including prawn spring rolls, prawn and chicken waffle cups, satay chicken skewers, fried rice with chicken, pineapple fried rice and pork stir fry. It was delicious.
Our next mission was to go to the 711 to buy supplies for breakfast for tomorrow morning as we were being collected from our hotel to go to the Tiger Temple at 5am. We also bought a range of snacks and plenty of water as the tap water is not suitable for drinking in Bangkok. After collecting everything we needed we walked back to our hotel which amongst the throngs of people and the night street stall traders was not an easy feet. After some help from a lovely local we made it safely back to our hotel and went to bed ready for our early start the next day.
