The Mystery Of The Henges

Wednesday April 4th 2012

After much discussion about which of the things on our to do list we were going to prioritise for today it was decided we would go to Stonehenge and Woodhenge.

We packed our required stash of supplies (and K rations - secret code for lollies and chocolate) and headed off. Apparently the boys K rations were getting a little low so we stopped at Morrison's for a top up on the way.

The weather forecast for today had been sleet and snow, even though the weather had been unseasonably warm so far. It was overcast and cold with some light rain. We were fortunate that we made it to Stonehenge before the weather deteriorated too much.

We collected our audio guides and walked around Stonehenge. Even though Maggie, Allen, David and myself have been here before it was still interesting. The boys seemed to really enjoy it. Only a month or so ago Connor had watched a documentary about new evidence to explain the purpose of Stonehenge and Woodhenge so he was particularly interested to see the places for himself.

When we had finished at Stonehenge we drove on to Woodhenge. By this time the weather had worsened and we were quickly back in the car after showers of rain.

We made a brief stop to warm up with coffee and hot chocolate before heading back towards London and going to Harvester for dinner. The journey back was a little slow with large volumes of traffic on the M25 but we were very thankful we were not going in the opposite direction as there had been a multiple car accident and the traffic was backed up, literally not moving for many many kilometres. Another fun day.
